Since it was first introduced in 1999, Invisalign has become one of the most popular smile-enhancing procedures in cosmetic dentistry, on par with laser teeth whitening and other most-requested services. Adults in particular have sought out Invisalign for its combination of convenience, discretion, and flexibility. However, not everyone is a good candidate for Invisalign.

While Invisalign can correct a number of dental problems, including overcrowding, gaps between teeth, crossbites, underbites, and overbites, Invisalign is intended for people whose second molars have erupted. This occurs around the age of 12 for most. Anyone younger than 12 or anyone who still possesses his or her deciduous teeth (baby teeth) should wait before beginning an Invisalign procedure.

People with severe dental problems that will require a lot of tooth movement to correct may also be unsuited for Invisalign. Although the plastic trays worn during the process are quite strong and are individually fabricated for each patient’s mouth, they may not be able to move teeth to the extent that traditional orthodontics can.

If your permanent teeth have erupted and you do not require severe correction, then you may be a good candidate for Invisalign. Be sure to consult with a dentist before beginning the procedure; he or she will be able determine whether Invisalign is right for you, as well as suggest alternatives. Anecdotal evidence suggests that Invisalign has about a 50% success rate, so if your dentist tells you to consider another procedure, be sure to take that recommendation under advisement.

Before you get started on an elaborate weight loss workout program in an attempt to drop those pounds that you’ve wanted to shed for some time, it’s important to make sure that you’ve got the basics of healthy living down. After all, when building anything, including a better you, it’s essential to make sure that you’re starting with a firm, solid foundation if you want the changes to last.

One of the most basic things that we can do to live healthier is to drink enough water. Almost everyone has heard the traditional wisdom of drinking eight glasses of water a day, but the fact of the matter is that the amount of water your body needs varies from person to person. Many boot camp programs will work with you to establish your correct fluid intake along with your other nutritional needs, but if you are working on your own without a nutritional advisor, it will probably take a bit of trial and error to find the right amount.

There are several guidelines that can be followed when determining your water intake, even without the assistance of professionals at fitness camps in California. Men generally need to consume more fluids than women. If you exercise frequently, are ill, live in a warmer climate, or you’re breastfeeding or pregnant, you’ll also need to consume more water.

Teenagers are rather notorious for having poor body image, no matter what kind of shape they may actually be in.  Even the thinnest, prettier girls might think that they’re overweight or just not attractive enough. When a teenager, male or female, is dealing with actual weight problems rather than just imagined ones, you may find that the situation is far worse. Whether through teasing or their own negative feelings about their appearance, a teenager’s dislike of the way they look can lead to depression and other emotional problems. On the other hand, improving one’s physical appearance, particularly in a structured program such as a boot camp for girls or boys where the lifestyle changes can be continued at home, can lead to an improved outlook of one’s self and one’s life.

If you have a teenager who has been feeling down about their appearance, perhaps looking into summer weight loss camps will help them get on the path to both a healthier body and a healthier outlook. Many parents already send their kids to camp over the summer — why not choose a camp that will yield positive results for them that will hopefully last for a long time? A fitness boot camp in California could instill healthy habits that will last a lifetime and give them a reason to enjoy going back to school.

We all have one of those friends. You know the type I’m talking about. The one who has put on five pounds at the most since she graduated high school ten years ago. The one who can eat whatever he or she wants and never gain an ounce. The one who insists on eating greasy burgers and drinking thick milkshakes right in front of you (not with the intention of being mean, of course; they are still your friend!) The one who will never have to consider using vacation time from work to attend a fitness retreat. The one who doesn’t have a problem maintaining the weight you’ve been trying and failing to reach for years.

It might seem unfair that some of us have to depend on weight loss programs for women or strict diets to escape from being overweight. And in a way, it could be said that there are people out there who have something of an unfair advantage over others when it comes to keeping weight off. The fact is that some people just have genetics that are more suited to being a certain weight than others do.

However, having a realistic view of your genetic predisposition as compared to your friend doesn’t mean that you can’t visit a "fat camp" in California or start a new diet. Just be proactive!

Curious about snoring? Snoring is a problem that affects people all over the world. Incidentally, people all over the world have tried to stop it, but no definitive solution has been identified yet. Here are just a few facts about the irritating and common phenomenon we call snoring:

  • Famous people snore. Former presidents Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as well as Winston Churchill and Benito Mussolini were all snorers. Wonder what snoring cures they used?
  • Astronauts generally do not snore while they are in space. The effects of zero gravity help keep airways open. Now that’s an innovative snoring solution!
  • Men snore louder than women. How much louder? About three decibels, according to a late 1990s study.
  • There are 15 million snorers in the UK—about 10.4 million male snorers and 4.5 million female snorers.
  • Anywhere from 30% to 50% of the U.S. population snores, according to an estimate cited by the University of California-Irvine. No wonder there’s such a strong market for the ultimate snoring treatment.
  • As of 2007, more than 300 snoring devices had been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Being overweight, advancing age, alcohol consumption, smoking, colds, and sleeping on one’s back can all cause or exacerbate snoring.
