As popular as weight loss boot camps have become among those looking to drop pounds, they are certainly not your only option when it comes to dropping weight. The local gym is, of course, an old standby, but not an option for everyone in this time of economic problems and tightening belts. However, it isn’t that hard for individuals to get the same type of exercising done in their own home as they would on a weight loss vacation.

One type of equipment that is gaining popularity among home exercisers is the kettlebell.  Originating from Russia, this weight can be lifted, swung, and used for a variety of exercises without a complete set of weights that boot camp programs might have.

Picking up a DVD or two with dance exercise programs is a fun and affordable way to engage in physical activity in the comfort of your own homes. There are a wide range of options available, from hip hop to Bollywood-inspired routines. Invite some friends over to join in on the fun.

There are plenty of people who are all about taking a "back to basics" approach to getting into shape. What does that mean? Think back to the type of exercises you did in grade school. Running laps and jumping jacks might not be very exciting, but they can get the job done.

Too often, parents dread bringing their kids to the grocery store because they know that they’ll end up loading their carts full of sugary cereals and fatty snack foods.  Even if you and your kids aren’t ready to hit the "Fat Farms" to lose some weight, you still want to do your best as a mother or father to ensure that your kids are eating right. After all, instilling good eating habits now means there’s less of a risk that they will need to attend a weight loss retreat in the future.

If you are someone who frequently brings their kids along for grocery shopping, why not turn it into a lesson in how to shop right and eat healthy? Make a list that focuses on grains, fruits and veggies, and lean meats and dairy products, explaining to your kids why fatty and sugary foods have been left off the list. When in the store itself, show your kids how the layout relates to the health value of the foods. Most stores have the healthier foods on the ends and the less healthy foods on the insides. Let them read the nutrition information on the label and let them know what they should be looking for. You can even let them pick healthy favorites. Healthy eating today could mean no adult weight loss camp tomorrow.

According to the World Health Organization, the H1N1 virus is the fastest moving pandemic that has ever occurred. Usually the time period for pandemic flu viruses to spread around the world is more than six months, the H1N1 virus took less than six weeks to spread. Since there is such a rapid spread of the virus the World Health Organization has asked for specific case reporting requirements such as only severe cases of death or unusual or different patterns of the virus.

The United States is reported to having the largest amount of outbreaks of H1N1 cases of any country in the world. The last count that was done was said to have been a total 263 deaths that have occurred in the U.S. with 57 of them from New York alone. The World Health Organization had stated that worldwide the death rate has doubled just in the past 3 weeks from around 330 in July to over 700 presently.

Most people that do get the virus usually get over it within a week without seeking medical attention, but those with severe cases of the virus do need to receive the attention of a physician to get the treatment needed to recover.

There are trials being done in Australia, to determine if the H1N1 vaccine will provide the appropriate immune response to the virus. Vaxine is the name of the vaccine that is being used for the trial that contains 240 regular, healthy adults that run between the ages of 18 to 64. These participants will receive 2 shots every three weeks. The director of the research, Nikolai Petrovsky stated that the trial will take six to eight weeks before they can tell if there is any results. Petrovsky also stated that although there is no guarantee that this vaccine will be effective, there is hope.
