An amazing network of cells, tissues and organs, the immune system is our body’s main defense against disease. However, there are many factors that affect the immune system and nutrition is one of them. This is why many of us do our best to take care of our bodies by eating right and taking an immune system booster such as ActivaMune.

ActivaMune, a patented dietary supplement, was created by a group of leading scientists in the fields of nutrition and molecular biology at the University of California at Berkeley. The ingredients include three main health-promoting nutrients that are naturally found in the Brassica vegetables: Diindolylmethane (DIM), Sulforaphane and Selenium.

The scientists at UC Berkeley have found that DIM is a strong activator of the immune system for both men and women, offering the body anticancer properties as well as antiviral and antibacterial properties. In addition, the scientists have demonstrated that DIM promotes Interferon-Gamma production and sensitivity in the body, which is another reason why it has strong immune enhancing properties. With many other health benefits including cellular detoxification and support for multiple organs, ActivaMune is an ideal immune system booster.

The use of medications to help suppress withdrawal symptoms and cravings in people struggling with addiction to heroin and other opiates has helped success rates in rehab.

There was a time when the common opinion within a rehab program was that a person needed to quit “cold turkey” in order to truly kick their drug addiction. The concept of using medication to help a person control their urges was not considered to be relevant, since many treatment doctors believed that this was merely replacing one drug for another and did not teach the patient how to live a drug-free life.

This idea was fallen by the wayside in recent years, as drug treatment concepts have advanced. Treatment specialists now release that a well-rounded treatment program can include the use of medication along with therapy and other treatment methods. Advances in treatment have made it easier for people to get effective treatment for their drug addiction and have a better chance of remaining free of drugs.

When it comes to heroin and other opioids, there are several different types of drugs which can be used in treatment received in an addiction center. Many different types of medication are used during the withdrawal process. Opiate addiction creates some of the most demanding withdrawal symptoms, and medication can help with both the physical and mental problems that arise during withdrawal. In the case of severe dependency on opiates, this withdrawal treatment can be done in a hospital setting with doctors and nurses who can treat patients in case significant side effects occur.

There are several types of drugs that are used in the treatment of heroin and opiate-derived prescription drug abuse. Drugs such as methadone and buprenorphine target the same sensory receptors that are excited during the use of heroin and morphine. These drugs help to relieve the cravings that addicts have along with suppressing withdrawal symptoms.

Another drug that is frequently used in the treatment of opioids in drug rehab centers is naltrexone. This is one of the more recent advancements in the medicinal treatment of heroin addiction. Naltrexone actually blocks the effects of heroin and other opioids at the brain’s receptor sites, limiting the amount of pleasure that a person receives from using it. However, naltrexone is not the best option if a person has not gone through detoxification in a drug rehab facility.

A new research released recently indicates that smoking marijuana during teen years could increase the risk of developing depression. The study however does not indicate if marijuana is the sole cause of this.

There are quite a number of studies that show links between a heightened risk of depression and the use of marijuana; it is also linked with anxiety disorders. Overall however, whether the use of marijuana solely contributes towards these links or if other factors are present, are still somewhat hazy.

The recently released study carried out by the World Health Organization was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and includes data from over 50,000 persons from over seventeen countries.

In general, the study indicates a fairly moderate link between depression and smoking pot before 17 years of age. Across the seventeen countries, the study showed the risk of suffering from depression move up to 50%.

This link stayed the same, even when the researchers added in other factors such as mental health issues, addictive habits such as drinking, smoking and marijuana use. The link between depression and marijuana use only lessened when childhood issues were factored in. These included anything from playing hooky, shoplifting and school yard brawls.

The main researcher involved in the WHO study, Dr. Ron de Graaf who is from the Netherlands Institute of Mental Health and Addiction in Utrecht said that behaviour issues could be one reason for the close link between depression and the use of marijuana. Unfortunately though, the data available from some countries were insufficient with regards to conduct issues, especially in South Africa and New Zealand where the link was the strongest.

Let’s face it: times get crazy in all of our lives. There comes a point where drug addiction becomes a part of some of our lives, for others, it is the need for alcohol and for some, the need for prescription drugs. The bottom line is that these things aren’t planned although most people who are addicted to something or the other wonder how they got themselves into this position in the first place.

Take for example, prescription drug abuse which is the dependency on pills due to chronic pain or similar medical issues which revolve around the brain needing the drug to ease the discomfort. Strangely enough, this crosses a limit, and the patient begins to take pills way over the prescribed limit as the brain needs more and more to reach the desired effect that the patient first experienced the first time around.

Regardless of the kind of drug, this is how a state of addiction is reached, leading to the patient faking injuries or some medical issues in order to get more prescription drugs to satiate their need. And this obsession becomes more and more evident to the people around because this is all that matters to the patient. And it is the best time to consider the option of heading to a drug rehab center.
One excellent option is Cirque Lodge that is located in Sundance, Utah amidst the Rocky Mountains, where one can find redemption from their deadly addictions.

New research recently published indicates that cutting back on cigarettes and exercising more improves the urinary health and sexual health of women and men respectively.

One particular research carried out recently surveyed close to 2,000 women in Finland, all aged between 18 and 79 years. The survey took into consideration their smoking habits and urinary health as well.

The research findings indicate that former smokers as well as current smokers showed a possibility of needing to urinate urgently between 1.8-2.7 times. It also indicated that they would most probably urinate 1.7-3.0 times more frequently when compared against those who were non-smokers.

Meanwhile, a separate study carried out in North Carolina surveyed 178 males regarding their sexual health. The survey was carried out at the VA Medical Centre.

The results received were first skewed, with the necessary adjustments being made with relation to such factors as race and age. Following such adjustments, the results revealed that those who exercised more frequently were reported to have better sexual health. The findings of both surveys were released at the American Urological Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

The official spokesperson for the American Urological Association stated in a press release that it was common knowledge that being inactive and smoking was unhealthy. However, he pointed out that that the data released recently affirms the fact even more, giving people better reason to quit the habit of smoking – and said it would encourage them to start exercising more often as well.
