Chronic pain is a very real problem for people today. According to The American Academy of Pain Management chronic pain affects as many as 50 million Americans every year. According to their statistics, most of these people have been living with these problems for over 5 years. This makes it a very real problem. The problem is so widespread is even being called an epidemic in some annals.
Chronic pain affects mind, body and spirit yet, we are still learning what some of the effects of chronic pain are on the human body and the brain, yes the brain. Chronic pain seems to take a toll on the body after a period of time. Research has shown that people who suffer with chronic pain have many other issues.
So how does chronic pain affect the brain you ask? Well people who suffer with chronic pain tend to have problems with their sleeping patterns. They also have problems with concentration and tend to have more problems with being alert during the daytime hours due to the problems sleeping. They also have problems with short term memory due to this.
It has also been documented that people with chronic pain have more problems with depression. It is well documented that chronic pain and depression go hand in hand. There is even anti-depressant therapy that is given for chronic pain by pain management specialists that can be helpful in many cases.
Physicians are still learning how to combat chronic pain. There is much that needs to be done in this field in order to help those who suffer with this cruel fate. Until more is known the epidemic sadly will continue.

Discoid Lupus (commonly known as lupus face rash) is just one of the forms of lupus that a person can get. It mainly affects a person’s skin which results in rashes. Since the face is visible to everyone the rash is too and this is how the disease got its common name.
Generally the rash is prevalent on any area that is exposed to the sun i.e. face, neck, hands etc. But the rash is not necessarily limited to those body parts; it can even affect feet, back, chest etc. When lupus affects the whole body the rash will not result in scarring and it can be made to go away with medical treatment.
Reading into signs to diagnose lupus is somewhat difficult. This is purely because many of the signs can be or be mistaken for other diseases. This puts the doctor and the patient in tricky position. However, here a few of the known symptoms of lupus:
- - Low grade fever which continues for a long time
- - Excessive tiredness
- - Joints which are swollen or painful
- - The butterfly shaped rash which appears in purple or red
Another problem regarding this disease is the fact that there is no definitive test that can diagnose it. Doctors could take several years to diagnose it due to this reason. You can help to accelerate the studies being conducted to find a definite lupus test by donating to a registeredlupus charity.Ensure that the charity is legitimate or you good intentions may go to waste.

Alcohol Addiction is a serious problem and should be taken very seriously. The worst case scenario here is death and every measure should be taken to avoid this. Whatever the reason a person has to become and addict, it can be resolved and every alcoholic can be treated. It is all a matter of finding the right place and ensuring that they are given the right treatment.
If you know someone who is displaying signs of alcoholism, talk to them first. Broach the subject in a very roundabout manner and get them to talk. They may be very defensive or get worked up in the beginning, but you will find that most of them will breakdown a little into the conversation. Getting a person admit that they have an alcohol problem is the first and most crucial step that has to be taken.
The next step is to find a good alcohol rehab to treat this person. Drug Rehabsare often found together with Alcohol Rehabs as the problem sometimes goes hand in hand. Find a reputed rehab facility, like Cirque Lodge, which has proven results and plenty of satisfied residents. These places will use a variety of techniques to a help a person get out of their habit with a minimum of impact. This is far a better approach than the “lock a person in a room and deprive them of the substance” approach.
Do you research well and if money is a problem, try to get the best you can afford. Do not go for one that will save you money as you cannot be assured of the quality of the service.

Cruciferous Vegetables – that’s what this is all about. These veggies have properties that can lower you risk of lung cancer. So eating Cruciferous vegetables is a big part of your Cancer Prevention Diet.
One of the best known and most hated (by children and most adults) of the Cruciferous vegetables is Broccoli. Broccoli contains a compound called Diindolylmethane or DIM, which is a strong stimulator of the immune response system in the human body. This and another compound known as isothiocyanates combine to form a fairly powerful force against lung cancer.
If you are wondering which veggies are Cruciferous and good to eat, here are just a few of them:
1. Broccoli
2. Mustard seeds
3. Turnip greens
4. Cabbage
5. Kale
6. Cauliflower
7. Rapeseed
8. Rutabaga
You can consume them in cooked form, but for the best benefits you have to eat them raw. Even though this may seem unappetizing at first, think of your health and then decide.
However, you should understand that these veggies provide a chance to prevent cancer. To add to those chances, you need to quit smoking. The more you smoke, the more you damage your lungs. The moment you quit and eat these Cruciferous vegetables, you give yourself a better chance of avoiding the deadly disease. If you want to know more about a cancer prevention diet, talk to a doctor who specializes in nutrition first. That way you will be able to set up a proper meal plan which will be totally beneficial to your body.
