Unfair Genetics

We all have one of those friends. You know the type I’m talking about. The one who has put on five pounds at the most since she graduated high school ten years ago. The one who can eat whatever he or she wants and never gain an ounce. The one who insists on eating greasy burgers and drinking thick milkshakes right in front of you (not with the intention of being mean, of course; they are still your friend!) The one who will never have to consider using vacation time from work to attend a fitness retreat. The one who doesn’t have a problem maintaining the weight you’ve been trying and failing to reach for years.

It might seem unfair that some of us have to depend on weight loss programs for women or strict diets to escape from being overweight. And in a way, it could be said that there are people out there who have something of an unfair advantage over others when it comes to keeping weight off. The fact is that some people just have genetics that are more suited to being a certain weight than others do.

However, having a realistic view of your genetic predisposition as compared to your friend doesn’t mean that you can’t visit a "fat camp" in California or start a new diet. Just be proactive!
