at-rx july 2016Stomach ulcers occur when a person’s stomach lining has been damaged. Most people will suffer mild to acute pain and doctors may confuse stomach ulcer pain for problems in the gut.

The most common reason for stomach ulcers to occur is due to acid build up affecting the damaged section of the stomach lining. Stomach acid is needed for food digestion and to protect the human body from harmful microbes. But if the surface of the stomach is harmed the acid will cause damage to the stomach.

Stomach ulcer symptoms

Indigestion – Doctors call these symptoms dyspepsia, which is a form of pain and discomfort in the stomach area. This feeling can sometimes feel like heartburn as it is felt below the chest. The indigestion can also cause acid reflux.

A burning sensation in the stomach area – This can feel like a biting or gnawing pain. It can sometimes feel like your stomach is empty or your hungry.

Pain after eating – Most people will complain of pain after consuming a meal.

Pain mostly at night – Pain at night is common for patients with stomach ulcers. This pain may lessen or go away completely as they wake.

Although these are the most common symptoms, most stomach ulcers change over time and therefore can be difficult to identify and treat. If you suffer from the above symptoms, it is best to consult a doctor and receive treatment to heal your ulcers immediately.
